Have you wondered how our liveability will be maintained with rapid increase in housing density and a heating climate? You are not alone. Combined Residents of Whitehorse Action Group (CROWAG) will be holding a forum at 1.00pm on Saturday, 19 October at The Arbor Community Arts Centre, Box Hill to explore these opposing objectives.
Planning Minister Sonia Kilkenny in a recent statement has said the new blueprint to guide how Victoria grows, Plan Victoria, would … ‘‘give Victorians a once-in-a-generation opportunity to have a say on how we shape our cities, towns, regions and communities for decades to come … and what people’s lives will be like in the future: that includes housing affordability and choice … liveable and thriving neighbourhoods, and climate action and sustainability.’’
Plan Victoria will support the Victorian 2023 Housing Statement that seeks to build 800,000 dwellings in 10 years mostly in existing suburbs and towns close to public transport, as the impacts of the changing climate are becoming more apparent.
Expert climate and planning presenters at the Forum will cover the realities of what we can expect in Whitehorse from further destabilising climate change and how the State Government housing policy will clash with climate change mitigation and adaptation objectives.
What needs to be implemented for Box Hill and the municipality of Whitehorse to retain and enhance liveability and sustainability?
A panel session at the Forum will provide the opportunity to share ideas and work together to help identify community ambitions for what would make Whitehorse more liveable and a better place to live, accounting for climate change. The key ideas for maintaining liveability will be delivered to our council and state government leaders.
